I dont know why I feel so wierd talkin about this... I pretty much have no jaw line. and its almost like the skin under my neck doesnt come all the way back... making me look like napolean dynamite. Anyway... Do I need to bring my body fat % down? Im a scrawny guy, 5'11, 155lbs. But is it possible to be appear skinny yet have high body fat? Would exercises that build neck muscles help? Anyway, I need some advice that doesnt involve plastic surgery. This has bothered me for years. Someone please HELP!

Thanks for moving this to the correct area. Now sure if there is anything besides surgery for a jawline.

There must be something! I mean... you know how you see alot of nerds who have this problem yet they are still pretty skinny. When was the last time you saw a buff fella with the same problem. Even my younger step brother's jawline has become WAY stronger since he started working out. I understand that maybe I cant fix the jawline itself but I MUST be able to make the skin under it tuck in a little better. Does that make sense to you? I could snap a picture and post it... it would be pretty embarassing, but Ill do it if it will help. I was poking around the internet and found a site promoting some plastic surgeon showing how he did "neck contouring". Now, I would never get plastic surgery, if it came to that I would just suck it up and be ugly forever. But, the significant part is that he was performing lyposuction to the neck, which means that its actually fat that makes it look that way. Would it help if I did some more neck exercises? maybe that would tighten the skin up around there? I hope someone else here has had this problem before. I hope you understand, this is something that REALLY bothers me, and Im pretty desperate here...

Look bro your genes dictate your physical appearance. DHT is the body's natural supply of androgens and causes masculine qualities such as bone structure and overall physique. Honestly their is nothing you can really do but I would recommend getting over the anxiety your feeling and look at yourself as a whole instead of a turkey neck turd. Why don't you post up a pick and let us be the determining people. I get a little turkey neck when I'm bulking.

It just sounds like fat man. Yes it is possible to be 155 and stil have excess body fat. You're talking about trying to decide between plastic surgery or just accepting it, but have you even tried to cut your overall bodyfat and then bulking up to some more lean mass? I'd bet that would help. Hell I used to have a horrible double chin and the only way for me to have a jaw line was to shave myself a Riker. Now that I've lost significant body fat and put on some muscle the issue is gone entirely. Your genetics do determine your appearance IF you let them.

Okay, well heres an image. Thats really encouraging. I dont mind working it off, I've got the willpower to put myself in a gym everyday, I just want to know if thats what it is. Not until about a year ago did I really start caring what I looked like, I've just been sitting in front of a computer my whole life it seems like. I used to say stupid lines like "I can eat anything I want and it doesnt effect me." Well, apparently not, since Im so bad out of shape...

You're not terribly out of shape. Everybody is different. You didn't come factory equipped with a pronounced jawline / chin. But all any of us can do is the best we can with what we got. The good thing about it is that what you got will work just fine especially if you work on it a bit (it is all about ass really...lol). Cut your bodyfat as low as you reasonably can and your chin / jaw will stand out more. For example, I'll bet that with a different fat/muscle ratio Rich Franklin's chin would look alot like yours

And you shouldn't be in the gym every day. Read through the stickies in the Diet forum and the Training forum. Get your diet right and start a focused properly structured training schedule... stick with it and the best results you'll get will be relief from the mentality of being your body's victim rather than it's master. Also, leading a predominantly sedentary life like you described will affect your bodys production of those hormones cani was talking about. As your body adjusts to a higher level of phyical exertion, so will it also stimulate higher levels of the hormones you're looking for. All kinds of interesting things affect test levels in guys. I've read studies that claim test levels even change in response to being in a long term relationship. The point is as you start to work harder and develop more confidence al kinds of other physical and psychological positives occur too.
