I just joined and am wondering if there are any girls here. I've recently started lifting again and would like to discuss weight lifting with other women who are lifting. Thanks

Hey there, thanks for the quick responses! I'm looking for someone to advise me on the best approach to lifting for my needs. I'm 5'7", 45 years old and 135lbs, body fat is 23%, want it lower. I've been riding road bikes for the last several years, I'm in okay shape, but miss the muscle definition and I don't feel as strong as I used to. Of course that's due to age as well, but I'm not ready to go down without a fight. My goal is to firm up, define, lower my fat ratio without bulking up. I've noticed after 2 weeks of being back in the weight room I'm kind of puffy, I'm guessing from the muscles saying "what the hell are you doing?" I'm hopeful this is temporary and will go away soon? I'm doing 45 minutes of cardio and lifting for about 45 minutes alternating lower body and upper body days. I usually do 3 exercises per muscle group and about 3 sets of each exercise starting with about 20 reps and the last set is about 12 reps. I'm not adding weight for each set yet. I'm using free weights as well as some machines and cables. So, what should I do and what should I expect to see and feel. I'm not the patient type, I want to see results right away...........is that unreasonable?

Hi there! As one of the resident females, thought I'd pop into this thread and say welcome to the board!! Canni's right, Storm really knows how to work the ladies, lol! But most of the advice you'll find on here works for women too, simply adjust weights for training and portions for diet advice. You could probably get instant results, if you decided to try one of those overnight weightloss pills they sell...but quick results don't last. It takes time to get the results you want, but if you can set small goals for about a month out, it might help ease the impatience. By small, I mean reasonable...like increasing how much you can lift by 10lbs, or losing 1/2-1 inch overall...I have a hard time keeping myself motivated, so this method really works for me(especially when you pass that goal). The puffiness sounds more like you might have some water weight...how's your sodium/water intake?
