About 3 weeks ago I was benching with free weights and felt something pull in the front of my shoulder. The next day I went to do shoulders and I was still in pain. I lifted lightly for the following week but realized i still experience pain when benching or working shoulders. I even sometimes experience pain from just day to day activities such as holding a cell phone to my ear!

I decided to take a week off and do only cardio. The week after my week off i came down with the flu and had almost another complete week off. I started lifting again last thursday and the pain isn't as severe but it's still there and i'm not sure what the hell to do. Did I tear something? Should i see a doctor? Ice it, heat it? Give it more rest? Has anyone else had experience with this type of thing? Let me know. Thanks in advance.

First off, i would go to a doctor/sports physio and have it looked at, and then do what the doc says....most cases if its just a minor issue, they will tell you to take a few weeks off, most cases 5-6 weeks depending on the severity and so forth. DO LISTEN TO DOC AND DONT LIFT YOU WILL JUST MAKE THINGS WORSE...

More rest.

What specific motions hurt? I don't mean just with lifting weights, I mean in general.

How long have you been lifting for? Experienced lifters generally know their bodies and what is severe and what is minor. If you are not an advanced lifter, I suggest the same that gp says and see a doc, preferably an Ortho.

Most pain comes when lifting. But the only motion that hurts sometimes is turning the steering wheel in my car to the right with my left arm. It's not that bad but it hurts.

5-6 weeks off!!! Jesus!

i got a shoulder problem to now its not pain but i have an enflamed tendon which causes a click when i rotate me shoulder. i dont think we have the same thing but hopefully you dont have a bone problem cause that would be bad and take a long time to recover from. SEE A DOCTOR
