Lets start the debate here.... I am sick of hearing it in threads and would like to hear everyones opinions on this matter.

I always hear from time and time again, "To lose weight, cardio right when you wake up on an empty stomach"

I however never tried this method because it does not make sense for a number of reasons.

Upon waking up, your body has not had food since the previous night, so after 8 hours lets just say on average you wake up and do morning cardio on an empty stomach, your body has had no nutrients for the previous 8 hours. This would set you in a catabolic state. Yes you would lose fat, but you would also be losing a considerable amount of muscle as well.....

Also people say have a protein shake prior to the cardio... I however do not like this idea as well, and back to the 8 hour food deficit, taknig a shake will not IMO be enough to compensate for an 8 hour shortage of whole foods.

................ anyone else?

i totally agree with you, but for people who drastically want to lose weight this is a good method. People who arent afraid of losing muscle and just want to lose fat and arnt worried about the muscle loss then this is fine but for someone trying to gain lean muscle mass this is not a good method.

O.K, my question would be if your on gear (Winstrol for example) then wouldn't your body preserve the muscle from being chewed up anyway? I think this is the reason most BBers I've seen post swear by morning Cardio. If I was natural I wouldn't do morning Cardio because it looks like it would chew up too much muscle, but if on Winny it might be a different story..

There are many good argfuments on both ends..It is my exp the more BF you have the better it is to do it on an empty stomach..As you get really lean your body will fight burning that fat off so it does help to have a small protein shake ie 20-25g and maybe 10g of carbs to help with the start of it and "trick" your body into burning the little fat you have on you..Gear does help but your body will do what it wants so the idea is to always switch upand "fool" it anyway you can..If you keep it guessing you will keep getting leaner...Storm

I think to have a little amount of macro nutrients is best. I like to have about 15-20g of carbs and 15-20g of protein about 15-20 minutes before my morning cardio. I do my cardio with a light speed and a high incline on the treadmill. Just enough to get my heart rate at about 60-65% of my maxium heart rate. I will start at 30 minutes 3 times a week and add in a day a week and then the next week add in 5 minutes then repeat by adding in another day and so on.

if you are going to do morning cardio....you have to get the body the energy that it needs in order for it to start burning the more complex carbs that are stored as fat. Adipose tissue is the most energy consuming source of energy for the body to use up, thus it will not want to use it. THUS, you need to get some food in your system to prime the body with enough energy to attack and burn the adipose tissue.
