How accurate are the consoles for a bike and a treadmill..?? I use a heart monitor that goes on your chest.... it gives me calories burned.. and the heart rate... Whenever I run on the treadmill the amount of kcal is different than the one I have on my chest.. it is usually off by like 150-200 kcal.. if this is off how accurate is the miles ran and the speed?? Any thoughts?? thanks, ebatz

I think treadmills base their information off of general math equations. There is no way you can tell how many calories each individual will burn, accurately anyways, from a console on a treadmill because everyones body is different. You have to account for BF%, BMI, age, health & stamina, etc. Who knows though, it may not be to far off, I just dont trust it. I just go till I am tired.

This is true... it's just an average. Do you have a thyroid condition?

they're not that accurate the more information you put in the better.. like your weight but I don't trust em really

i do not have a thyroid problem.. why do you ask.... so which is better to base an estimate on... the treadmill console or the heart meter I use on my chest to measure my heart rate... it measure my pulse rate, and kcal burned it is from polar... thanks.. ebatz

Well, I am not sure to be honest...that depends on if the heart monitor on your chest tracks your pulse any better than the one on the treadmill...they may be pretty close, I guess i would feel more secure with the one on your chest. Smallguy was right, the more info the better. So I would imagine that if you invested in a heart monitor that had inputs for all kinds of stuff about YOU, then that would be your best bet. Otherwise, just run on the damn thing until you cant run anymore-sometimes when you count calories, you also set mental blocks., If you are shooting for 200 cals, then hit it, you will feel exhausted - if you pay no attention - then you could hit 300 with even knowing it. Mind over matter -

ah ha true true...i notice that the chest strap is more accurate than the tredmill. but if your doing 145bpm and you actually are getting 143bmp then in a week you should notice so you can change it. get it?

the chest one asks for my weight, and male or female.. it measure my heart rate... it is usually between 150-180.. depends on how much adrenaline i have ... but thanks lots for the info.. by the way i normally burn between 320-420 kcals. for around 30-45 mins.. either walking or running .. good no..?? ebatz
