ok tonight i used DBs for bench press for the first time ever. I loved the feeling. Great stretch at the bottom and good squeeze at the top. My question is how should i use them. I ended doing 7 reps with 110's, which is the heaviest DB;s the gym has. I felt like i coulda went heavier...any help is appreciated. SHould i just use more reps?

Uh yea rep till failure weight is realtive bro if need be do some smith machine work to pre exahust your chest then do the DB it will make it harder on you and you wil get more out of it..You can also do them with incline forst that is where most are weakest..I almost always start with incline db 4-5 sets ending with the 125's for 10 reps..

Storm, do you do every set till failure? Or only specific lifts and sets?

every set should be till failure. thats why you need a spotter....to push out those extra 2-3 reps on every set.

get some bands if your gyms dumbell dont go higher.

or you could be hardcore and duct tape some weights to the 125's lol.

bands seem safer :P

I go to failure on my working sets always..I don't need spotters to much as I am at a level where I can mentally push myself to that limit...Of course somedays are ebtter then others but the job gets done...

with the DB presses i think a spotter is less necessary as if i get stuck i can lower the weight slowly and drop the weights off to my sides...its not like i will have a bb stuck on my chest..lol

true but i ****ed my shoulder up with DB's. if i had a spotter they could have caught it! im alot more careful now
