Ok, I'm a newbie and I started my routine suggested by some pro's on here. Today I worked my legs and done 5 sets of squats for the first time in my life. The only thing is that it was killing my lower back. Is there something I'm doing wrong or should know? Should I start out with less weight? I've read on here that I should focus more on perfect form starting out. Does that include squats as well? Thanks...

yes work on form. squats shouldn't hurt your back. keep it arched, not hunched...

bump amer- if you've never done squats b4 go light until youve got the correct form. No sense in hurting your back and putting yourself out of commission. You hurt your back your training is f**ked until it heals! Are you wearing a belt?

Tommorow will probably be unbearable. For that matter, the next 5 -7 may be crazy in terms of doms on your hips and legs. Hang in there and use absurdly light weights in the beginning.

Form is probably most important in sqauts. It's hard to explain in words for me, but what I normally do is bow my neck a pick a spot on the wall at the top of you eye sight and focus on that all the way down that way you won't hunch over, also try and get the bar a little lower on your, shoulder, not on the very top. You'll understand that if you see it. Don't be affraid to ask someone that works at your gym how to do a proper squat, but also keep in mind who you are talking to. I've had bber work at gyms I workout with and high school kids.

Well, I haven't joined a gym yet. I have weight bench, two dumbells and plenty of weights so I'm just having to work with what I got right now.

As far as squats, should I just try to keep my back as staight as possible for good form? Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm sure I'll be back with alot more questions as I continue my routine throughout the week.

Eyes up, Chest out, ass out and if you're going to squat, make sure you hit it low in the hole. Don't end up being that guy that squats 405 but only drops about 12 inches. Youre hips should be at least parallel with the floor. Don't worry about the lower back, use lighter weight and you'll be alright. Stick with it, with time your form will get better and you'll get stronger...no more back pains. Also, focus on doing more warm up sets before you start hitting your regular sets.
