finding it hard to keep a strong grip on the bar when i get to the last few reps, it starts to slip out of my hands and i cant support the weight hooking it with my fingers so I have to put the weight down get my grip back and then finish off the set. Maybe my hands are too small to keep a strong grip on the bar? I have both hands overhand grip.. are there any other grips i.e one hand pronate and the other supinated that you think might help me? thanks

Use straps. Now that ive hit the 400lb mark on deads im finding straps necessary. Dont neglect grip exercises though.

You can try alternate grip. at least with that grip the bar doesnt want to roll one way or the other. Look at it this way. Why deny your back the heavy poundage its capable of pulling just because your grip cant hang. Many will say deadlifts work best when done in the 4-6 rep range and how you gonna be able to go heavy enough for a 4 repper or some singles at 80% or higher if you cant hold on to the bar. Do some forearm and grip work and itll catch up eventually. In the manwhile, i still think straps are the best option.

the reason i say dont use straps is because of the risk of tearing a bicep/bicep tendon with straps. It pull on your wrist in a different way.

I wouldnt work your forearms, because this inturn makes ur fingers fatter, actually making your grip worse. What i did for grip was rackpulls. You do much more weight than you would DLing and you get used to the heavy weight. That+chalk will improve your grip.

A very common technique (similar at least) for people who squat big weights I think too (so that they can get used to balance while taking the 2 steps or so before and after squatting).

i know ppl that have made straps work and others that go the chalk route, give em both a try see what you prefer, one of the guys uses straps for just about everything, deads, shrugs and some others.
