I lost my license recently for gettnig in an accident 2 weeks b4 I turn 18. Bad luck because if It had been 2 weeks later I would have never lost them and only got a ticket. But none the less.... Now I run to the gym because I have no source of transportation unless someone can take me(which is seldomly). So i`ve been getting these killer as shin splints. Sometimes it`s hard to even make it home. It`s 3 miles round trip, 1.5 miles there, 1.5 miles home. I read up on shin splints and hear they eventaully go away but it seems like there not? I need to do somethin to fix this shit, its killing me

how do you run 1.5 miles then lift, i could never lol shin spints go away after a while by themselves, i used to run a lot (lacrosse, baseball, soccer) give it a little while, see what happens

I dunno lol just determination i guess.... It`s been about a month now. And I run maybe 2-3 times a week that distance so.... im patiently waiting but it seems like its not getting any better. but i`ll give it time. Should I stop running? Because thats really not an option for me....

pop a few aspirin about 15 mins before you head out the door, it should keep the pain from hitting as badly, if not prevent it completely, and then a couple when you get home....works wonders for me, might help you too.

man make sure your running correctly....shin splints are caused by running wrong i think it might be running to much on your heels, not sure though
posted by Burning Heart
it really doesnt bother me. maybe thats because I dont have really any other choice. i dont run on squat days obviously... that`d be to ahrd.

Well I do play hockey. Maybe that affects how I run.... and I think its caused by running on your toes? rather than your heels. I dunno though

wrap em tight because shin splints is something(forgot what its called) that seperates from the bone. wrap em up tight and ice them.

Wrap them before I run? Or after I run?

both lol

Shin splints are known as posterior tibialis tendonitis. It is the posterior tibialis muscle splitting away from the bone (shin) due to tightness in the calves. You need to start stretching your calves religiously, focus on rolling them out and holding tension points until the tightness decreases. Icing directly on the shins can also help. Also do not train your calves anymore. They are already so tight and overtrained that they are over powering your tibialis muscles from working. These means no more calf raises, whatsoever!! You can, however, do exercises to strengthen your posterior tib. Any exercise that elevates the toe towards the shin in a dorsi flexion movement will strengthen it.
