FORUM:
I am trying to lose weight, due to the fact that I have a military standard to meet each month. Currently, I am about 20 lbs overweight, based on my age, height, etc. Anyway- I have been in contact with the forum and have recieved alot of great advice. HOWEVER--Something is bugging me. According to the caloric intake I am on for my ^^^^info above, I should be consuming 2200 calories a day. I work out everyday, alternating bodyparts, and I do an aerobic activity(running) for either 2 miles or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. I for the life of me, cannot eat 2200 or less calories a day. Is this normal? I have eaten all throughout the day for the last 6 days, and only came close to 2000 calories I think, maybe once. IS this going to backfire on me? I heard that "too little calories" is just as bad as too many. I am only interested in dropping the excess weight first, then adding muscle. I am eating healthy, i.e. oatmeal, whole wheat bread, chicken, tuna, turkey, steak, green veggies, p-butter, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Along with vitamins and flaxseed oil, and protein shake(s). Anyone ever been through this??? What do I do?

im cutting weight as well so i know what you mean there are days that reaching your cal's is tough, i find it eaiser to reach them if i eat some more carbs during the early part of the day before i workout. i normally work out at 5:30pm or so and i try to cut all carbs after i workout aside from whats in my protein shake, which i take right after my workout. just keep eating clean and working out, it will gradually start to fall off.

I take it you have been at this longer than me, so do you mind if I ask what your weight loss is per say, every week or 2 weeks?

i got on here a month ago and started a new diet, i was at 337 im down to 319, thats a good chunk in a month, but a pound or 2 a week is about what you are looking for. like most ppl you will have weeks where you will drop 4lbs or so and gain it back the next week, its frustraiting as hell but just stick to it.

here is what i normally eat when i dont workout in the morning it may help you with your food choices

7:00am 1cup egg whites, 2 tablespoons salsa, 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup fat free milk

9:00-9:30am - can of tuna, or chicken breast, or turkey, or venison

11:30 - 12 - 8oz chicken/fish/steak, 20 small shrimp, 1 large sweet potatoe

2:00pm - can of tuna, or chicken breast, or turkey, or venison

4:30pm - can of tuna, or chicken breast, or turkey, or venison

5:30pm - workout

6:30pm - whey protein shake

7:30pm - 2cups ground venison steak

9:30 - something with low or no carbs if i even eat then at all

im not saying that what i eat is 100% right cause i know i need more greens in there which i will also eat a large salad at 11:30 some days, im just not a huge veggie person. im shooting for 2400 cals

Hey--Thanks alot...Yeah, I found Fitday this morning. I am hoping to lose 1-1/2 lbs each week, if it's more, even better. How much aerobic activity do you do? I am doing 15 min. elliptical trainer on workout days, and running treadmill on non-workout days.

i normally do about 30 - 45min on the eliptical runner on the cardio setting, my heartrate normally runs at about 160-170 and i try to keep it at at least 6mph

you need some fats in your diet.....eat some salmon or by some fish oil tabs and put them into your diet....also the 20 shrimp isnt really needed in their if your trying to lose weight......or eat them with a seperate meal......that much shrimp is 100 g of protein alone not counting the meat your eating with it thats a lot for one sitting

You can't hit 2000 calories? Unlikely. I can eat 2000 calories by accident in an hour if I'm too hungry.

It sounds like you're miscounting your calories. Use fitday, and log every single thing you eat. First, you'll eat less because logging it is a pain. Second, you'll get a much better estimate of your actual calories.

Now maybe you're really short, but assuming you're at all in normal body dimensions and activity levels, you should lose weight on so little calories.

As long as you aren't ravenously hungry, then too little calories is unlikely to be a problem (I'm dieting, and I am typically slightly hungry thruout the day, you get used to it, to be honest). Super low calorie diets exist (on the order of 700 calories a day), but you need be a pretty disciplined dieter, and do exactly what Lyle suggests to get good results with those kinds of diets.
