. I'm looking to lose around 5 pounds of fat around my stomach and chest, so im going to be working on alot of cardio the next few weeks but im worried that my body will be eating my muscles as it is starved for energy. What will happen if i do this, how can i handle it, and are their any other strategies that you might propose instead?

losing fat is all about cardio and diet. Do cardio first thing in the morning BEFORE YOU EAT ANYTHING. the body looks for energy from A) digested food. B) stored Fat C) muscles. If you have fat on you, you wont have to worry about it eating away at your muscles. It will only start eating away at your muscles once you have no stored fat.

ALSO, YOU CANT SPOT REDUCE. theres no such thing as burning fat just around your torso. Cardio will burn fat from your entire body.

I don't know that that is necessarily true... though I don't have a correct answer to give. if that were true you would have to be at 0% bf before you lost muscle which I know is incorrect. you do lose muscle as you lose weight. you can do things to prevent it though.

Muscle is lost at a faster rate than fat... since it has a higher metabolism. Heavy cardio and losing muscle is inevitable. As Morgan said you can do things to help preserve it, thats about it.

that is not true at all. If youre eating way under the number of calories your body needs to maintain its muscle, youre going to be eating away both muscle and fat.

What pres said diet and low intensity cardio to maintain muscle. Don't run and walk at an incline or do the stairmonster for 30-60min/day then do your weights or after just get it done.

I am agree with morgan that we do loose with loss of weight. So the only we can do is maintain good diet, cardio workout and weight training, Also never ever forget to do flexibility exercises.

Low intensity cardio being walking? or a light jog? How long should i do this in the morning for. There are two good routes along my neighborhood. there is moderate incline route or i can run to the park and do it there. Which would you recomend?

Low intensity means a low percent of max heart rate, usually 60%. Low intensity is one way to go, the other is intervals. Both have worked. With low intensity it will have to be much more like 60 minutes rather than 30. And it has to be done all in a row. Probably works better with about 2 grams of test a week also
