Hi guys,

Im into my second week of the rippetoe starting strength program..

3 day split..A,B,A...B,A,B

A: 3X5 Squat
3X5 Bench press
1X5 Deadlift

B: 3X5 Arm rows
3X5 latpull downs
3X5 Squat
3X5 military press

(Both days include abs and warm up sets, the idea of the program is to build up to your final 3X5 and lift heavy)

So far its going ok although the feeling of only doing 3 excercises a day can kind of make you wonder "am I doing enough" although it is repeatedly said that this is one of the best programs for beginners..

My problem though is the deadlift..I am definitly straining my lower back and I am trying very hard to keep my form right but because of the heavy weight lifting the lack of consistent good form on the final sets is taking its toll and im worried I could do damage..

Can anyone advice on what I should do is there an alternative or alternatives that will do a similar job without the lower back strain..

Cheers

Lower the weight, don't sacrifice form for weight or you'll be sorry when your injured. Theres been some bad stories about deadlift injuries.

what kinda stories?

and you dont want to feel a pull on your back when you deadlift?

torn muscles, bulged discs which take a very long time to recover.

I would have to agree with cosmic on the deads man. You should do a little more reps with them. Remember your lower back isnt a big muscle group, so if your going heavy you are not pen pointing the lower back.
