How many grams per day of protien should I get for each pound of body weight? should the amount be adjusted to coincide with lean body mass? and last but not least, what is the best way to get this protien?(which supplements have the highest # grams per serving)

1 to 1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight is enough. Protein is fuel to build your muscles and the extra protein is vital to that function. Typical high protein foods, lean beef, chicken breast fillets, fish, turkey and Quality protein powders and MRP's, canned tuna and egg whites are good as well. Just watch out for the sugar content and carb amounts in your powders and MRP's.

Yeah, Steve's right... Altough, you can go up to 2 grams per pound bodyweight if you're working DAMN hard.

I consume about 1 per pound of bodyweight everyday (even in my off days) and I'm pretty happy with my gains...

about 1g per lb of bodyweight here as well. i tried going up to 2g per lb but didn't see any difference except a thinner wallet. my metabolism is fast as hell so calories are my #1 priority, protein is second. with that said, if you eat a lot and use decent sources of calories you can't help but get a lot of protein as well.

The body can only handle so much protien. Just because your feeding yourself some insane amount of protien doesn't mean it's going to utilize it all. The thing you want is to create a positive nitrogen balance in the body. By eating an average of 1-1.5g of protien per lb of body weight, you will be getting eough. The only time I go over that is if I am using anabolics.

Correct, but after 6 kidney stones I have found those amounts are not necessary....I have to be very careful these days with protein...excess protein that isnt stored as fat is excreted through urine unless you are lucky and stones form LOL... I stay at .8/g/lb.

I had this conversation with someone before and they didn't believe me, so I dipped my urine with a chem strip while I was at work in the ER and it came up as normal amount of protien. It is a a common myth that it's excreted out of the urine. Also, kidney stones are made of either calcium, uric acid or crystine. Crystine is the exception. If you are one to develope crystine stones, then you are one of a very few with a hereditary autosomal recessive disorder. In other words, it's not the result of the common person. This is also where the myth was derived from. These same people that have this rare dissorder will excrete it from their urine, but it's imply because their kidneys cannot break down the amino acids.

MY GOD! Extra protein is stored as fat? Christ will I ever get the right balance for my body. I wonder then if I am eating too much Protien now? So I have to watch that as well as carbs? :-((

Stones are a fairly new thing for me...I had 5 at once....one was stuck and blocked the other 4 for 5 days. Needless to say it wasnt fun. I am trying to read up and learn as much as I can as these doctors just seem to have generic answers. I just hate the thought of experimenting to see what works and do the wrong thing and get them again LOL.

i agree with bigwill, but i haven't yet had any kidney stones.....

i weigh around 265 lbs, my weight is going up and down on the scales but needless to say i am probably getting in around 230 gramso f protein a day........

Can I just add that it's not only important how much protien you consume it is also important to make sure you don't consume too much at a time and that you consume it at specific intervals during the day. Such as 40 to 50 grams every 3 hours to keep blood nitrogen levels at thier peak for optimum muscle repair and growth.

I find that my best results on cycle are 300 to 400 grams a day at a lean bw of 220lbs.

You also wanted to know which protien supps have the highest amount of bio availibility protine. Based on personal usage I suggust ON 100 %protine whey which 23grams per scoop and it mixs in water with a spoon instantly with only 4 carbs per scoop. Maxmuscle also sells Maxpro which contains 25grams protein per scoop and 0 carbs it to mixes in water. Thier are tons out there just do some research and label reading.. Inkman
