What's a good way for a skinny guy like myself to add some weight and transform my boney body into a lean, muscular one? I don't want to look "ripped" with an extremely toned body, but I do want some tone to my body... a nice six pack, a nice chest, and of course strong arms, etc - nothing really extravigant.
I'm a little above average in height for my age ( 5'11" ), and it makes me look kind of unattractive because I'm pretty skinny (underweight and boney); but I'm not an ugly guy, I'm just really skinny. The basics; skinny arms, boney chest, etc. I want to be able to protect myself and my "partner". I practically have no self confidence what-so-ever and i feel bad about myself, because I know I might not be able to defend my woman against any harm that might come to her - that brings a guy down; BIG TIME. So I want to get myself into shape, first by gaining some weight and turning it into muscle (then of course study some form of self defense). In doing so I will also gain more self confidence in myself, which would improve my over all look on life; thus making me happier and more open to try new things; which would be great!

I've been reading some stuff about it recently, but I decided to ask for your opinion(s) first. What I read was...

[] eat 6 meals a day, eat every 2.5 to 3 hours
[] eat stuff like Tuna, Steak, Chicken, Fruit, Veggies, Cheese and Nuts (high protein, lean)
[] eat 4-6 pieces of fresh fruit a day
[] drink 4 tall glasses of milk a day
[] do workouts like Squats, Deadlift, ChinUps, Bench Press and Military Press (it says they're supposed to be the best for targeting weight gain.. without getting fat; i think, i probably misread it though)

Is this basically what I have to do to gain weight and get into good physical shape (nice, attractive body)? Feedback would be nice, all help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Sincerely, A guy in need

I'm a short stocky guy and I have a hard time putting on muscle. The right foods in the right quanities at the right times, you have to feed the machine. It looks like you've already done some research and have found some good info, however I don't see Carbs on your list. You need lots of carbs, they fuel your body and if you don't eat enough your body will use the protein you ate as fuel instead of using it to build new muscle.

P.S. Make sure you eat quality carbs like whole grain breads, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice and so on, stay away from white breads, white potatoes and sugar, I'll see if I can find a list of good carbs and bad carbs and post them on here. Don't forget supplements protein, omega3 fatty acids, a good multi vitamin and so on.

i dont know much about all the weight stuff but while you need to spend time in the gym to build muscle you should run as well cause im 15 been running about 2 weeks to train for a marathon with my youth group and i have seen a change in muscle make up my build, my posture and the drive to go to the gym and workout to stay with it. and you already have a partner you should work and enter in contests and marathons it will motivate you to do your best since you aren't trying to get all the top notch hot women try and i think that you will see results post how you do in a couple of weeks or days so wee know how you do, good luck
peace

You sound like an ectomorph....one who is naturally skinny and has a hard time putting on weight.
Keep you workouts very intense but fairly brief: 3 times a week. No cardio and no running.
Give it time. One of my workout buddies showed me a pic of himself when he was a kid and I couldnt believe it was him. Skinny, skinny, skinny. Today he tops the scales at around 230.
Anything worth having is worth working hard for, so dont give up.
