I've heard that only a certain amount of protein can be handeled at a time in the human body.Is this true?

theres no set point, since everyones genetics are different. Eat around 1.5gprotein per lb of bodyweight and you will be about maintenance dosing...

Well I heard that every hour or so your body can only take in so much at a time and the rest is wasted

yeah i have heard such things like the body cant process more then like 25-35 grams at a sitting but i dunno how true that is, i balence my protein out throught the day anyway

yah...can anyone confirm that or is it false?
posted by gymphreak
its false... reasoning behind it being that if you increase your protein intake, its very likely that you will see more progress in the gym, due to the body having the protein it needs. its one of the most essential amino acids in our diets....SO..if the body needs protein, it will use all the protein it needs. SO....if you eat less protein than your body requires at the moment, your body will catabolize the next best protein source.....muscle. SO...what would you rather have....a bit more than what you need or less protein than your body needs in you at the time....
