| I replied this in one of the member pics threads, but i figured i might as well make it a topic of discussion.... i was looking at some of these diets on eating a ton of food for instance a 4500 calorie diet. you dont burn off those cals throughout the day where do they go? does your body use them? do they turn into muscle, fat? |

| haha, your ass! If youve lifted and done a good job then youve torn the muscle and it needs to be repaired. your body is gonna make fixing those muscles a priority. It takes extra energy and therefore extra calories to do this. |

| to find out where excess calories go, lets remember what a calorie is. a calorie is simply a unit of measure for energy. so calories are energy. excess energy is stored in the body as fat. the reason you see guys eating so many calories and not getting fat it because thier bodies are extremely efficient at burning calories (this is typically known as having a fast metabolism) in order to grow bigger, they need to take in enough calories to maintain the muscle mass they currently have (this amount is known as bmr) plus an additional amount to allow for the calories burned through daily activiteis, plus enough to be able to recover from the workouts that you put yourself through. 4500 cals is a lot of cals IMO and usually a guy is either a "hardgainer" (meaning he or she has a naturally fast metabolism) or the person is pretty big with a lot of muscle mass. |

| well said. keep in mind that lean muscle is metabolic tissue and your metabolism is based on the amount of lean muscle on your body. Whats real crazy is ive noticed when im on a bulking diet, my body can process alcohol twice as fast as normal. I can drink a 12 pack in 4 hours and barely register on a breathalyzer. Metabolism is racing when u eat every 2 hours! |

| bump estray. depending on diet and training you can manipulate your metabolism to be faster or slower. |

| Exactly. It works in reverse too. For you hardgainers with a super fast metabolism, you can eat 2-3 big meals a day slowly train your metabolism to slow down. |

| For me its natural. I tried only eating 2-3 big-medium mills a day and still its fast and i get hungry so now i am eating alot so i dont loose weight lol. i am gainaing weight very slowly. |
