Doesnt Gatorade Have A Bunch Of Sugars And Sodium?? Pure Orange Jucice Wouldnt Be Better??
posted by estray
Gatordade has good sugars that your body needs after a workout. If your body is short on glucose, it turns to protein for fuel. Thats not good cause it breaks down muscle tissue and thats what were all working so hard to gain. As for sodium, sodium and potassium are electrolytes and the balance between the 2 determines how much of the fluid your body will retain for rehydration. OJ has almost no sodium and it has 20x the potassium needed. Not an ideal balance. Not trying to sound like a Gatorade commercial but the company does spend millions of dollars on research in this area. As for the lactic acid buildup with orange juice, I cant make that argument. Orange juice is extremely high in potassium and potassium prevents lactic acid buildup. Orange juice is acidic though and that could cause gastric distress.

Thanx..lots I Didnt Really Know..now Gatorade Or Propel Or Vitamin Water?
posted by estray
Propel or vitamin water is for drinking throughout the day. It doesnt have the carbs you need during or after a workout. You dont want to sit around drinking gatorade all day cause all the extra cals wont help your with your weight loss. Thats where propel comes in.
posted by CUTS
and powerade has that new stuf called powerade option....80% less carbs then gatorade.
posted by estray
Its the same type of drink as propel. great for all day long consumption but not appropriate for after workout. Powerade is a 2nd rate company IMO and this is why. Their slogan for powerade option is this: "Regular sports drinks rehydrate you and provide carb energy to working muscles. But that carbohydrate energy also replaces burned calories with new calories, which may not be your goal in the gym on the track, or wherever else youre being active. POWERADE OPtion is a low calorie sports drink that gives you a great tasting way to replace lost fluids without replacing the burned calories or carbohydrate energy." Thats just ignorant. You need carbs after a workout. If youre trying to lose weight, the only thing that relly matters is calories in is less than calories burned at the end of the day. Plus the regular powerade is just made with high fructose corn syrup. Might as well have a mountain dew!

Thanx Guys This All Really Helps Alot!!!! To Bother U Again...can U Tell Me Good Fruits And Bad Fruits?? Same With Veggies??
posted by estray
There really are no bad fruits. Some are just better than others. Apples and grapefruit are great. Bananas are good too. Just limit to one or 2 servings day. Green vegetables are good. Green beans, broccoli, lettuce. Good in fiber and antioxidants.

Ok Forgot To Ask...for A All Day Type Of Drink Regual Water Or A Propel Type Of Deal???
posted by estray
Thats just a budget issue. At 10 calories a pop for propel, its pretty insignificant but water is free.

(to Estray) You Really Seem To Know Your Stuff How Long Have You Been Interested In All This??? Can You Tell Me A Bit About Your Workout And Eating Routines???
posted by estray
haha. Ive got too much time on my hands but i learned alot hangin around here over the last 6months. I played competitive sports in high school and college but im 35 now and kinda been sliding for the past 10 years. Those 10 years my weight went up and down as did my level of fitness as i would start a workout regimen and it wouldnt last long cause i wouldnt get the results i was after. I didnt know what i was doing till i came here and started asking questions. Theres alot of knowledgeable, cool people here. Shortz is great with female nutrition. I was 5foot 10, 230lbs in september and now im 184lbs and ive added 10lbs of muscle in the process. My goals are probably alot different than yours but if you stick with some basic principles for fat loss youll get good results. 1. eat frequent, small meals. This is the most important. 2. 20-30 min of cardio 3-5 times a week 3. add some weight training if you want. Its a great way to boost your metabolism and firm up in the process. 3 days a week is plenty 3. No starvation diets. cut your cals by 300-400 day. 4. diet should be high protein, moderate carbs, and low fat. 5. get good fats. natural peanut butter, fish oil tabs 6. drink tons of water. 1 gallon a day. 7. eat lean meats. 8. limit dairy to 1-2 servings day. use skim milk and other lowfat products. I keep a journal as do many here if youre interested. http://www.bbforums.com/showthread.php?t=4332

posted by estray
Whey is just a quick and easy way to get a bunch of protein. its great for an occasional meal replacement(when dieting) and as a post workout meal. Get fat free yogurt. Tuna with lowfat or fat free miracle whip. Put it on 1 slice of whole grain bread for a high protein, moderate carb meal. Venison is awesome. Its as lean as chicken but has all the bonus nutrients you get out of red meat. I too have a freezerful full but ive made a good dent in it in the last 3 months. Ill take the chops and steaks and brown em and throw im in the crockpot with tomato sauce for 4 hours. They come out just falling apart.
