Forgive me for the noob question, what is the best way to continue to add muscle yet get my abs to show? I do cardio 3 days a week on my off days, run 2 miles, and lift three days a weekon my on days. I dont want to sacrifice losing muscle to lose weight. Any thoughts on how i can get my abs to show yet contine to build muscle?
Thanks, sorry for the noobie questions. if this has been brought up before jsut direct me to the thread

Yes, I have a diet. I eat 4-6 times a day with a couple "snacks" inbetween. I am eating clean foods too as well as protein shakes and drinking water. Just dont know what else to do, id rather not take anything like ripped fuel, i want to do this with out any "artificial" help. I just dont want to sacrafice muscle loss. thanks

I heard someone say once:

You can work on getting huge, or you can work on getting ripped, but you can't work on both.

well i half way agree with that. i know a guy who gaines weight up until a show where hes shredded. but i do get what you are saying. can you be LEAN and still gain muscle YES! but you cant get shredded and HUGE all at once.

blah...

you can add muscle with minimum fat accumulation if you really watch your intake. if your tummy seems to be losing definition, decrease your calories a bit.

diet will have a lot to do with it. then patience and consistency are the other ingredients.

This is a very interesting topic and one that I do not fully understand its workings. Everybody says to put on muscle yuo must put on fat however if you are doing weights -doesn;t your metabolism increase - and with the increased metabolism doesn;t fat loss come with it? I don't yunderstand the concept as I would think it logical that as yuo have a increased/fast metabolism the food and fats you eat shoudl be burnt off while gaining muscle. Am i missing something ?

In order: yes, no, yes. You have to eat at a calorie excess to gain muscle (actually you don't, but trying to hit the number rt on the nail would be ridiculously difficult and prone to error -- and simply not a good strategy). At a calorie excess, any calories not building muscle will turn into fat. Its that simple. You will be tempted to make it complicated to "burn" that fat. That would be missing the point, as there are still excess calories -- and those will become fat.

Losing weight is part of bodybuilding imo, and its just as interesting as building muscle imo -- though definitely very different.

So then my best bet would be to bulk up for a while then cut down?

yeah bulk for a while maybe 6 months then cut. by gaining weight ur strength is gonna go up and plus the bigger you get and the more muscle you add the less ur gonna be concerned with keeping ur abs. still work them hard but dont get frustrated with losing them. I would take being able to fill out a shirt over being small and having abs ne day.
