You kinda do need protein, maybe you can get some liver supplements to help strengthen it?

To clarify because i just realized i didnt answer some of your original question. Whey protein is the most complex and pure type of protein, its more easily absorbed into your muscle than other proteins and it digests easily, its good for your immune system, helps with muscle recovery and various other reasons. I dont really know anyone who is serious about working out that doesnt take any protein. I dont think it would would have any adverse effects on your liver. Most of your muscle is made up of protein and its required to maintain it

whey powder is great if you can't find time or don't have the means to eat at a given time of the day.... however it is a meal replacement. if at all possible i find it best to try not to use them and find time to eat.:2cents:

yes whey is great but since you are a diabetic I would stay as far away from fats as possible. What type of insulin do you take? humalog? Hey you should be timing your protein intake to when your insulin peaks so you can obtain optimum results in retaining your protein. Stay away from fats and you can also use liquid carbs for your carb intake but you better know what you are doing... and yes you should be eating real food whats you diet?
