Nutritional info for Chicken of the Sea water packed sardines. Serving Size: 1 can Servings: 1 Calories: 100.00 Calories from Fat: 40 Total Fat: 4.00 g. Saturated Fat: 2.00 g. Cholesterol: 45.00 mg. Sodium: 430.00 mg. Total Carbohydrates: 2.00 g. Dietary Fiber: 0 g. Sugars: 0 g. Protein: 13.00 g. Vitamin A: 0% Vitamin C: 0% Calcium: 20% Iron: 4% Doesnt look bad at first glance. Serving size 1 can, 3.75 ounces per can..........BUT, after you drain the water, you only end up with 3/4 ounce of fish out of the whole can. 4g of fat and 430mg of sodium is very high for 1 oz of fish. Multiply that by 6 ounces and its not even worth eating, nutritionally and economically. As you can see, sometimes the label is a little misleading.

Yeah you are right. That is tons of sodium. Thanx for the info guys I was looking for something else quick and easy other than tuna and chicken. But I see tuna is not a relly good choice unless the have low sodium cans.

6oz of tuna has 750mg of sodium. Thats not great but i can live with it. better than 2500+ mg for 6oz of sardines. not to mention 24+ grams of fat.

yeah, I can start eating tuna 2 times a day instead of 1 time a day.

sodium isnt too bad unless consumed with salt and carbs and water etc. for competitors sodium isnt an issue until the final days of a comp. once you drop the water though sodium should be consumed for carb metabolism.... I dont concentrate too much on sodium much

A.B. 's right just retains water i eat a lot of beef jerky and its chalk full sodium most beef proteins do

Its a little more complicated than that especially when youre cycling. If youre like me(and many others) blood pressure goes up when on cycle and so does retained water. Eating high sodium foods just compounds both of these issues. Sodium aside though, the fat content is very high, especially for a fish.
