So I found a website that allows you to make your own protein. you can select what type of protein you want (ion-exchanged, casein, egg white, whey concentrate, etc.) what type of carbs (dextrose, fructose, malt.) amount of amino acids and so forth...you get the point. This is all measured out into a percentage of 100 and you can determine the weight as well. So, what is the perfect protein combination following a workout? Obviously you want something that has a quick release, right? Also, I see a lot of proteins that are very low in carbs such as 3 grams. Is that too low? Aren't carbs good for spiking the insulin levels which in turn enable better protein synthesis? The website is www.trueprotein.com Please, for those of you who really know your protein, and I mean more than the difference between whey and casien, by all means I am all ears. Thanks!

We've talked about this quite a bit here recently. I posted a link to an Alan Aragon article that is worth reading also. So, here is the idea: Post workout we are looking for fast absorption and glycogen replenishment due toa window of increased protein and glycogen uptake. So whey (a fast absorbing protein) is best. You also want a quick insulin response for rapid glycogen replenishment. Dextrose and maltodextrin are the gold standards in causing an insulin response and replenishing glycogen immediately (other carbs have to be broken down). The usual ratios are 2-3x as many carbs as proteins. So my shake is something like: 50g whey 120g dextrose 5g creatine (optional) If I had quick oats around the house, I might use those per Aragon, but I only have old fashioned oats. Finally, there is an argument for putting some fructose in your shake because that replenishes your liver glycogen better than dextrose. If I ordered from true protein I would probably throw in 10g of fructose. Whey is a non ideal protein source at other times due to its too rapid absorption apparently, though I'm not sure that makes sense to me. Some folks advocate casein for all other applications.

honestly all you need is whey isolate. You could buy casien to take before bed but if you mix whey in milk same difference. I wouldnt get dextrose put in it cause you really only want that post workout. Just buy some dextrose and add it yourself.
