Hi, i'm new to the boards.

I've searched for info on Prozac affecting muscle growth on the net, but can find nothing.

4 weeks ago the doc's put me on prozac for depression :screwy: work outs used to suffice (endorphins feel good for a short period) but no longer, so prozac it is then :(

I understand that sleep regenerates muscle growth, but the prozac interrupts my sleep pattern with abnormal dreams waking me through the night, the next day i feel tired and sluggish and generally weaker

I still manage to do my workouts though, but i'm worried that it maybe self defeating, i might be burning up calories, and not getting sufficient sleep hence muscle growth, maybe i'm wrong and it may benefit me in some way.

Has anyone else had same experience and if so did it affect growth?
or has any1 got any links with info on Prozac (fluoxetine) pertaining to muscle growth?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

Prozac doesn't directly cause atrophy to muscles, but, like the problem you are having, some of the sides can cause other problems that will lead to muscle loss.

Def talk to your doctor about it. There may be something they can do for you.

thanx shortz, it's just that i been looking a little lean lately (could be psychological though).......i'll give it a few more weeks and keep a close eye on my weight and fat amount, maybe the sleep disturbance will settle.

Am also on diazepam, but heard somewhere that this is a muscle relaxant and therefore maybe beneficial to muscle growth, dunno if this is true.

But am glad to hear no muscle atrophy is to be expected with the prozac

That could be your whole fatigue problem right there man. Diazepam is the generic name for Valium...you know, the drug people take to go to sleep? It's classified as a benzodiazepine, which is a sedative.

yeah i know, but if i dont take the dazzies then the prozac cause my insomnia, which causes more fatigue/irratability/growth loss which leads to violent outbursts :banghead:

I am "the man who ate the fly", i would take up boxing if i could afford to, maybe that would help balance things out, i am slowly trying to ween off both these dodgy drugs, pointless talking to the doc about it,(UK) NHS docs treat us like chickens on a factory process line.....5 mins and you outta here with a script....NEXT!

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the mo, shouldn't be clogging up ya boards with this really, but had to find out about the Prozac in relation to muscle growth/loss.

I'll come back in a few months when i'm back upto 15 stone and maybe i can take and add some usefull advice to/from the boards.

At the mo i'm at 12.3 stone, and this week i 'ave been mainly eating broccoli, spuds, wholemeal bread, skinned chicken breast, tuna, eggs, whole milk and prozac ;)

But thanx for the info shortz
